Apple Beta Updates OS 27 To Fix New Bugs
Today Apple released its latest iteration of its operating system betas. I was between tasks and updated the three devices I have been running the beta on and went through a laundry list of bugs / oddities that arose in the last beta.
This took me right up to a set call, which ran long in a good way.
The checklist of bugs and oddities I had been tracking all seemed to be fixed. The one I found entertaining, but also quite annoying, was one in Apple Music for hi-res audio which in the last edition on Mac (only on Mac) changed the sound profile and spiked some upper registers which brought out some layering in instruments and voices that weren’t easily noticeable prior. It also had some narrowing of center audio and the shadings of spacing left to right turned into hard left and right pan with little until you got to a narrow center. I am so happy to have regular audio spacing back and the regular incredibly good sound processing.
Other bugs fixed were how Siri / Spotlight responded to text and voice and moving from query to answer in the window.
This feels like it is back on track towards a formal release. This OS 27 beta has mostly been smooth and fixes a bumpy and really odd OS 26 that didn’t seem finished and had a lot of interaction design patterns that an interaction designer with a handful of years experience knows well are problematic (if they didn’t learn it through education they found out quickly on the job).
