August as a Reading Measurement
The the rear bumper of August approaches to pass as I realize I still haven’t put in reading time with the Mick Herron’s 6th and 7th books in the Slough House series: Joe Country and Slough House. The clock is ticking as this next season of Slow Horses - Season 6 - Wikipedia on Apple TV in a little over two weeks. Season 6 combines the two books into the one season, which the bits I know about the books is they rather different like shirt and trousers, and not a pair of socks.
I deeply enjoy the TV series, but I think I enjoy the books even more (and I like the TV series a lot as it is one of my favorite shows on). I find the books entertaining and engrossing, much like a John LeCarré book, but with brilliant humor woven in. I found I can’t read the Slough House books in public as I laugh and giggle out loud and look like a lunatic trying to hold it all in.
I have had a few books going at once of late, which is sometimes helpful and fine, but at the moment hasn’t been. I’m mostly gutting the 6 or 7 books that follow me around home with snippets of reading from the split stack from whichever my whim momentarily rest upon. I have Joe Country in the stack and a postcard nestled in about 50 pages in. I am still in the setup and catching up with character phase. I’m not sure where I’ve set the book Slough House, but I should sort that out. Joe Country is just about the spot where things will take off in a Herron book and that means I will rip through what follows. I just need to sit with it with more than 10 to 15 minutes of reading time available.
